The Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program is delaying the introduction of changes to its nomination streams that were planned for January. In an update issued December 15, the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) said the changes were being postponed to allow the provincial government more time to consult with affected stakeholders.

The AINP announced in October that it would be consolidating its current Alberta Employer-Driven Stream and Alberta Strategic Recruitment Stream and their sub-categories under a single stream with one set of standardized eligibility criteria known as the Alberta Opportunity Stream. The aim of these measures was to improve the position of foreign workers in the province to attain long-term success under the yardsticks which meet the requirements of federal government.

At the same time, the AINP announced the creation of a new stream aligned with the federal Express Entry system for economic immigrants. This stream will allow the AINP to select candidates from the Express Entry pool and invite them to apply for provincial nomination.

This Opportunity Stream was planned to take effect on Jan. 2nd, 2018, and the Stream of Express Entry was timed for online commencement in Jan – 2018. The objective behind these initiatives was improving the situation of overseas workers in the province, to achieve success based on the benchmarks, which correspond with the government requirements. Further updates regarding this issue will be made known in the New Year. The applicants can maintain submission of applications for the active streams of the Program.
